Self diagnostic function and trouble shooting PGM FI

On motorbikes using PGM FI system are equipped with Self diagnostic fungtion or independent diagnostic function.



so when the ECM detects an abnormal response from the PGM FI system then the MIL (malfuction indicator lamp) will blink in accordance with the independent diagnostic function of the system in order to notify the rider of any problems on his motorcycle, MIL is usually located on the speedometer panel.

At the beginning of the ignition key is turned to ON, the MIL lamp indicator will light ± 2 seconds and then will die (calibration mark), if there is a failure or abnormality on sensor sensor PGM FI, MIL will give the code in the form of MIL flicker according to sensor the damaged one. If the system is abnormal when the ignition key is turned ON it will turn on ± 2 second then MIL will light again according to failure code detected.

If we have done the repair or replacement sensor, ECM will keep the previous failure code, to remove the stored code we can perform the procedure reset ECM



How to check the failure code that is still stored on ECM is by using DLC ​​short connector on DLC.



Inspection procedure.

• remove the cover so that dlc is visible

• make sure the ignition key is OFF

• remove the DLC cover

• connect DLC Short connector

• rotate the contact to the ON position,



then the history of sensor failure stored on ECM will appear or blink to indicate failure code.

And if there is no failure code stored in ECM, then the mil will be on, some will not light.



  The following procedure how to remove the failure code in ECM.

• remove the cover so that the DLC is visible

• make sure the contact is OFF

• remove the DLC cover

• connect the DLC connector

• turn the ignition key ON

• remove the short connector DLC and attach it (in less than 5 seconds)

• MIL will shortly blink continuously (sign of failure code failure succeed)

• turn the ignition key to OFF position, remove the DLC short connector, and attach the DLC cover



If the failure code deletion is unsuccessful, the indicator light will blink according to the damage still retained in ECM. If that happens then do the ECM reset procedure from scratch.
